Material guide

Choose a material for how you’ll use the part.

Tell us what your part needs to do and where you will use it. We’ll help you compare the options.

Get to know the common options.

This guide gives you a starting point. We check which materials and colours are available and whether they suit your part when we review your request. These notes are not a promise of how a finished part will perform.

PLA

About PLA

A common option for models, displays and general indoor prints.

Tell us if the part will be near heat or used outside.

PETG

About PETG

An option for everyday parts where some toughness is useful.

We’ll check the fit and where it will be used. PETG alone doesn’t make a part food-safe.

ASA

About ASA

An option to discuss for outdoor parts exposed to sunlight.

The design, finish and exact plastic still need to suit the job.

ABS

About ABS

An option for useful parts that may need to handle heat.

We’ll look at the shape, print setup and where you’ll use it.

TPU

About TPU

A flexible plastic for parts that need to bend or compress.

Tell us how soft it needs to be and how much it needs to move.

For more general information, see the Prusa filament material guide (opens in a new tab). A material maker’s data alone cannot tell you how a finished custom part will perform.

Tell us about your part

Where will you use it?

You do not need to know which material to choose. Ask us for a recommendation and describe the job it needs to do.

  • Whether it will be indoors or outside in sun or rain
  • Any heat, nearby equipment or chemicals
  • Any weight, movement or bending it needs to handle
  • What it needs to fit, how it should look and how many you need

The design matters too.

The part’s shape, wall thickness, position during printing and printer settings all affect the result. A fine layer height does not guarantee an exact fit. If a measurement matters, we can discuss a sample and agree how you will check it before a full run.

For nylon, materials with added fibres or other specialist options, we first need to check availability and how they can be printed. We do not make a general promise that a material or finished part is certified, suitable for structural or medical use, or safe for food contact.

Not sure which material to choose?

Send your model, sketch, measurements or a clear photo. We can work out the next step together.
